Alfredo Guemes is Professor for Materials Science at the Department of Aeronautics, Polytechnic University of Madrid, and Director of the Aerospace Materials and Processes Department. He studied Aeronautical Engineering at UPM and has a PhD in Aeronautics. Before being a full-time professor, he was an associate professor at UPM, responsible for the Composite Materials Lab. His current research interests include morphing wings, CFRP composites, damage detection from strain measurements, and smart processing of composites. He has been involved in more than 10 European projects related to Composites and Smart Structures, and has published more that 100 research papers. In 2011 he received from Boeing the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his contributions in the SHM field.
