The Truck & Bus Active Safety Systems Committee of the Truck & Bus Council is responsible for developing, reviewing, and approving Recommended Practices, Standards, Draft Technical Reports, Technical Data Reports and Information Reports related to all types of Active Safety Systems and their interfacing with operators and other vehicle systems. Active Safety Systems are to include Vehicle / Operator Warning Systems (such as but not limited to Lane Departure, Collision Warning, Pedestrian / Object Recognition Systems) and Proactive Safety Systems (such as but not limited to Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Crash System Actuation, Collision Mitigation Systems, Automatic System Control Systems but excluding Antilock and Stability Control Braking Systems). Included are trucks, tractors, trailers, buses over 10,000 lbs (4500 kg) GVWR designed primarily for highway use. The initial Committee focus will be on Vehicle/ Operator Collision Warning Systems. The Committee will address the Collision Warning Systems, the Collision Mitigation and the Collision Intervention Systems in parallel. The Committee will address other Active Safety Systems when sufficient resources are available.
