Overview
The On-Road Automated Vehicle Committee reports to the Driver Assistance Systems Steering Committee of the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to autonomous ground vehicles.
The Committee is developing an Information Report that provides functional definitions for autonomous ground vehicles (AVGs) and related technologies. It focuses on contemporary and near-term technologies reported in the popular press and distinguishes truly autonomous ground vehicles/technologies from semi- or partially-autonomous ground vehicles/technologies. It includes a discussion of safety-related testing and evaluation parameters that may be appropriate for future standards development activities.
[Note: It is anticipated that the scope of the committee will evolve as or after these definitions are established.
Participants in the SAE On-Road Automated Vehicle Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.
