Electrified vehicles present new hazards associated with the stored energy in the vehicle’s energy storage system (ESS). These hazards may include chemical, electrical, and thermal. (The actual hazards will vary depending on the size, configuration and specific chemistry of the ESS.) This RP aims to describe the new hazards associated with electrified vehicles and suggest common methods to safely handle and mitigate these hazards during the vehicle emergency response, recovery, tow, storage, and salvage. Design standards and tools will be studied and suggested for responsible organizations to implement to assist in mitigating associated hazards of electrified vehicles.
