Overview
The Dummy Testing Equipment Committee (DTEC) is a group of experts with experience in the area of calibration and handling of Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATD), more commonly known as crash test dummies, and equipment related to ATD. The DTEC seeks to standardize the use and calibration of ATD so that test data are both repeatable and reproducible. SCOPE: The DTEC seeks to fulfill its mission by: - - Writing ATD user's manuals which provide instructions for proper assembly, disassembly, handling, instrumentation, and use of ATD commonly used within the industry. - - Developing calibration procedures which are repeatable and reproducible for dummy components which could affect dummy measurements that are used by safety engineers to assess occupant injury potential. - - Developing inspection procedures which supplement calibration procedures to insure that dummy components meet their design intent. - - Writing any documentation which may be helpful in standardizing the use and calibration of ATD. - - Investigate any potential problem areas with the design, use, calibration, durability, instrumentation, repeatability, and reproducibility of ATD. - - Evaluate new technologies to determine if they may be appropriate for use with ATD. - - Provide a forum for sharing knowledge and discussing any ATD issues to determine where standardization may be needed.
