Guide for the Design of Threaded Screw Or Stud Type Electrical Equipment Terminations
To establish design recommendations that will provide a basis for safe and reliable connections to threaded screw- or stud-type electrical equipment terminations. These recommendations are directed primarily, but not solely, to the aerospace and ground support equipment industries. Since individual design criteria may alter the details as outlined, it is therefore important that this Aerospace Information Report (AIR) not be considered mandatory, but be used only as a design guide.
This document was developed as a reference and tutorial for those unfamiliar with the factors that need to be considered when joining electrical equipment. It also serves as a refresher and checklist for those who have specified these products many times before. Covered is the function of screw fasteners and their relation to wires being joined, something sometimes lost by the commonality of terminal lugs. Considerations of the use of dissimilar metals that can cause future problems are also included.
