Fuel Level Control Valves/Systems
A fuel level control valve/system controls the quantity of fuel in a tank being filled or emptied. This document provides a general familiarization with these mechanisms (e.g. forms they take, functions, system design considerations). This document provides the aircraft fuel system designer with information about these mechanisms/devices, so that he can prescribe the types of level control valves/systems which are best suited for his particular fuel system configuration.
The document offers good guidance material however it doesn’t encompass the breadth of current technologies available such as level control ‘systems’ using software control based on fuel gauging data or the use of electrically actuated valves. The document is to be reviewed and revised by either:- 1/ Outlining the broader scope of approaches available and stating that it focuses only on the ‘fuel powered’ valve subset Or 2/ Updating the document to include guidance for development of all current approaches for the design and development of level control systems
