Aircraft Landing Gear Shimmy Analysis Techniques and Related Tire Properties
Scope
This Aerospace Information Report summarizes several existing aircraft landing gear shimmy analysis techniques and provides guidance on the synthesis of tire properties that are needed for the various shimmy analysis methods. This AIR is based on the SAE Technical Paper 1999-01-5527, entitled An Investigation of Landing Gear Shimmy: Tire Models, Tire Test Methodologies, Analysis and Parameter Studies by John Medzorian.
Rationale
The purpose of this Aerospace Information Report is to give derivations of three tire models that have been used by landing gear and suspension system dynamists to conduct shimmy analyses. This AIR also describes a method of synthesizing test data for the Smiley tire model using dynamic test procedures.
