Incorporation of Atmospheric Neutron Single Event Effects Analysis into Safety Assessment
This document will cover atmospheric radiation effects. Galactic cosmic rays and solar rays that hit the earth’s atmosphere, penetrate and produce particle cascades. In the atmosphere, these particles are mainly high energy neutrons and can interact with a microcircuit’s silicon structure causing adverse behavior.
The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for performing a neutron Single Event Effects (SEE) evaluation of an avionics system that can be used in conjunction with other systems analyses in the context of a complete systems safety analysis.
