ASSESSING AND MITIGATING ERRORS FROM TOOLS USED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AIRCRAFT AND SYSTEMS
This AIR addresses the use of Software tools to supplement or automate human activities in the development of systems, but not the hardware or software items within those systems. If a systems development tool is also used in the scope of hardware or software item development, for that usage it would then become subject to the guidance presented in DO-254 and DO-178B/C, respectively.
The topic of assessing the use of tools is not addressed in ARP 4754A/ED-79A. This document explains and leverages existing policy in the adjacent domains of hardware and software development, and provides additional material for considering the use of tools in support of the processes described in ARP 4754A and ARP 4761(A).
