This specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of seamless tubing.
The specification is being revised to reduce the allowable hydrogen level to 50ppm (based on Boeing data which has shown hydrogen embrittlement failures in Ti-3Al-2.5V at levels below 75ppm), to require use of vacuum/inert gas furnaces for heat treatment operations to achieve this H level (these furnace types are used by all tubing fabricators), to make furnace types consistent with AMS4945, to reduce flarability sampling (data indicates no flarability failures in tens of thousands of tests), to correct errors in T flattening factors for two sizes of tubing, and to allow cracks in flattening test specimens in areas of reverse bending (consistent with ASTM B338).
