Heat Treatment of Titanium and Titanium Alloys
This specification covers the heat treatment of titanium and titanium alloy mill products (raw material), including wrought and cast products, by material producers. This specification also covers furnace equipment requirements, test procedures, and general information for heat treating procedures, heat treating temperatures, and material test procedures for the heat treatment of titanium and titanium alloys. It also describes procedures that, when followed, have produced the desired properties within the limitations of the respective alloys.
Correct typographical error in Table 6. 6Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr should be 5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr. Add footnote to Table 2 allowing quench delay times in excess of those listed provided periodic tests on samples representing the thinnest cross section (most likely to lose heat during transfer to quench)have demonstrated that tensile properties meet the material specification requirements. Define the perodic test in section 4.2.1 The quench delay times in Table 2 are unrealistic for certain furnace designs where the door opens slowly but the load does not lose significant heat while the door is opening. Issue was discussed at most recent AMEC meeting and was approved by AMEC.
