Define recommended requirements for Dielectric Strength and Insulation Resistance Testing: - Test voltages, durations and number of applications for Qualification and Acceptance testing, appropriate for each type of electromechanical, electrohydraulic and electronic component found in flight control and utility systems, and the stage of assembly at which it is tested.
Reports from Industry reveal that the traditional requirements for dielectric stress voltage level and duration, such as those in MIL-F-9490, may be overkill for components such as LVDTs and electronic modules. Repeated testing at the component, subassembly and deliverable assembly level, and following in-service repair and rework, have caused damage to acceptable components, incurring cost in manufacture and degradation in service.
