Title
Flight Deck Based Merging and Spacing (FDMS)
Scope
The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to establish guidelines for the implementation of Flight Deck Based Merging and Spacing (FDMS) on the flight deck of commercial aircraft. It is intended as a general guide toward standard practice, but may be subject to frequent changes to keep pace with experience and technical advances.
Rationale
The Aviation Industry is developing many Airborne Separation Assistance Systems (ASAS) applications which are based on Automatic Dependant Surveillance â Broadcast (ADS-B) data. Flight Deck Based Merging and Spacing (FDMS) can be implemented on the flight deck in many different ways. This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended to establish best practices for the implementation of FMDS operations of the flight deck and set baseline requirements for pilot guidance.
