Title
JAUS Payload Interface Service Set
Scope
This document, the JAUS Payload Interface Service Set (ASxxxx), defines a message-passing interface for a generic payload, sensor, or actuator. These services represent a logical interface particularly useful when those defined by other JAUS Service Sets [AS6060, AS6057] are not applicable. Additional capabilities are specified in the JAUS Core Service Set [AS5710] and are frequently referenced herein.
Rationale
The SAE JAUS standards enables interoperability for unmanned systems, a rapidly growing field. As new technologies and use cases are introduced, the interfaces to support them often lag adoption. The JAUS Payload Interface Service Set provides a generic-yet-interoperable way of describing human-in-the-loop control of a payload, whether it is a sensor, an actuator, or any other device. The message definitions described herein were used by JAUS prior to its adoption by SAE and is an integral part of the JAUS family of services.
