Title
Active Temperature Controlled Shipping Container – Performance Requirements and Test Parameter.
Scope
The purpose of this Aerospace Standard is to establish the minimum performance requirements and test parameters for active temperature controlled shipping containers that are either incorporated into a Unit Load Device (ULD) or a shipping container defined as cargo, that require approval of airworthiness for transportation within the aircraft cargo compartment.
Rationale
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approached the SAE committee with a request to develop a new Aerospace Standard for Active Temperature Controlled Shipping Containers. Currently no industry standard has been developed or adopted. This new standard would then be utilized and referenced within a new FAA Technical Standards Order (TSO) and also be utilized by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) within a new European Technical Standards Order (ETSO).
