Powerplant Fire Test Temperature and Heat Flux Calibration
AS6826/2
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides standard methods for testing main engine and auxiliary power unit installations to demonstrate fireproofness or fire resistance. This document details the instrumentation required and the procedures to be followed to determine the calibration parameters of the flame to be used during the fire test.
Rationale: In March 2018, the FAA tasked SAE International to develop industry standards to support an update to AC20-135, Powerplant Installation and Propulsion System Component Fire Protection Test Methods, Standards, and Criteria. Industry standardization is needed due to the wide variation in practices. The details in this part of the document aim to provide guidance on the instrumentation and procedures to be used to calibrate the flame, with the hope to reduce ambiguity and inconsistencies between test facilities in this process.
