| AE-2, Lightning Committee |
|
Scope
Develops and harmonizes international documents on lightning strikes and effects on aircraft. This committee is the U.S. focal point to provide technical guidance to ensure the protection of aerospace vehicles in the lightning and related atmospheric electrical environments. The committee works closely with lightning specialists in comparable international technical communities. The objective of this committee is to establish and maintain standardization activity that results in safe and cost effective protection of aerospace vehicles in the lightning and related atmospheric electrical environments. This includes the development of technical material contained in regulatory agency documents and industry standards. Sharing and coordinating the development of technical material with the comparable International communities along with harmonizing the U.S. and International forums relative to such material.

| AE-4, Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) |
|
Scope
Problem areas are explored in which committee expertise can be effectively applied at the national and international level. The AE-4 technical reports address electrical equipment, electronic equipment, propulsion systems, and electrical accessories compatibility with spacecraft, launch vehicles, and aircraft. The compatibility includes both intra-system and inter-system electromagnetic compatibility. The technical reports consist of engineering standards, specifications, information reports, and recommended practices, which are developed and issued for the general information of industry and government.

| AE-8, Aerospace Electrical/Electronic Distribution Systems |
|
Scope
Develops standards and specifications relative to the design and application of electrical distribution systems and subsystems and related components in aerospace vehicles. The committee consists of eight subcommittees including AE-8A Electrical Wiring and Fiber Optic Interconnect Systems Installation, AE-8B1 Protective Devices, AE-8B3 Relays, AE-8C1 Connectors, AE-8C2 Terminating Devices, and AE-8D Wire and Cable. It is responsible for standards and specifications developed by its subcommittees for design and performance criteria, procedures and processes, testing, materials, and standards relative to procurement, fabrication, integration, installation, operation, and maintenance. The standards and specifications developed by the respective subcommittees generally result from tasks established based upon military or industry requests for technical assistance. The committee also provides technical assistance to government regulatory agencies when approved by the SAE Aerospace Council.
| AE-8A, Electrical Wiring and Fiber Optic Interconnect Systems Installation Subcommittee |
|
The Electrical Wiring and Fiber Optic Interconnect Systems Installation Subcommittee, AE-8A, is established to provide a forum for gathering and disseminating technical information concerned with the requirements of designing, testing, installation, and maintenance of electrical and fiber optic interconnect systems in aerospace vehicles and equipment.
