Aerospace Vehicle & Propulsion Activity

Commercial Transport Aircraft & Propulsion Committee

Scope:
Requirements, design, development, performance, operational aspects, systems/subsystems integration, research requirements/status, and economics of commercial transport aircraft ranging in size from commuter/regional aircraft exceeding approximately 20 passengers to large transports.


Military Aircraft & Propulsion Committee

Scope:
All types of military aircraft and airbreathing propulsion concepts, systems, and subsystems, including aircraft and propulsion requirements, design, systems integration, installation, operation, maintenance, and test.


General Aviation Aircraft & Propulsion Committee

Scope:
Requirements, certification, design, development, manufacturing, propulsion systems, performance and aerodynamics, operational aspects, systems/subsystem integration, research requirements and status, economics, and environmental impact of aircraft ranging in size from small personal airplanes to commuter/regional aircraft accommodating fewer than 20 passengers.


Aerospace Manufacturing & Maintenance Activity

Aerospace Automated Fastening Committee

Scope:
Identifying problems and trends in automated fastening in order to improve standardization for the development of related equipment and processes.


Aviation Maintenance Committee

Scope:
Technical issues related to airframe, engine and systems, maintenance, repair and overhaul, such as comopliance and certification, advance inspection techniques, safety, and human factors.


Aerospace Systems Activity

Control & Guidance Systems Committee

Scope:
Aerospace control and guidance system technologies including system concept definition, theoretical design and analysis techniques, systems design and development, systems and vehicle integration, and systems operation and maintenance.


Environmental Systems Committee

Scope:
Aircraft environmental/thermal control components and systems; Space Station environmental/thermal control design, integration, testing, and operation of components and systems; EVA environmental/thermal control for space suits and associated equipment; unmanned spacecraft thermal control for interplanetary and orbiting satellites including Earth Observation satellites; planetary base environmental/thermal control for projects including Lunar and Mars missions; environmental/thermal analysis including software developments; advances in thermal control systems techniques and concepts for broad realms including radiator, thermal storage, heat pipes, two-phase thermal control, cryogenics, nuclear reactor heat rejection radioisotope thermal generators, naval and earth-based environmental/thermal control and emerging technologies.


Power Systems Committee

Scope:
Requirements, design, integration, manufacture, operations, maintenance, and test of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic power systems, accessories, and components for ground, air, sea, and space. Specific topics include, but are not limited to, subsystem integration, energy storage, power generation, power distribution, high pulsed power, power conversion, power utilization, and the thermal management of these technologies.


Systems Safety Committee

Scope:
Current and innovative system safety efforts for aeronautical and space systems relevant to hazard identification for new designs, new techniques, advancing technologies and modifications and upgrades to current systems, as well as management controls to prevent mishaps.


Aerospace Technologies Activity

Acoustics, Dynamics & Vibration Committee

Scope:
Acoustics, dynamics, and vibration, as applied to aerospace vehicles, including military and commercial aircraft, missiles, satellites, and manned and unmanned space vehicles. Specific topics include, but are not limited to: aircraft noise control, turbojet, turboprop and ramjet acoustic emissions, structural-borne noise, sonic booms, helicopter noise, vibration control, damping, modal analysis and characterization techniques, vibration testing methods and standards, self-excited vibration, flutter, buffeting, aeroelasticity, non-linear vibrations, rotating machinery vibrations, balancing, instability of rotor-bearing systems, discrete and continuous systems, shock spectra, types of shocks, shock testing methods and specifications, shock and vibration isolation, and dynamic data acquisition.


Aerodynamics Committee

Scope:
Applied, experimental, and numerical aerodynamics as well as aerodynamics-related CFD. Specific areas include CFD codes and methods, aerodynamic testing, high lift, boundary layer control, aerodynamic design, internal flow, propulsion aerodynamics, and high-speed flow.


Human Behavioral Technology Committee

Scope:
Crew fitness, automation/integration, realistic training, head-up displays, flight deck information management, aircraft internal environment, vertical flight, enhanced vision, operational communications, laser safety hazards, terrain separation assurance display technology, traffic alert and collision-avoidance systems (TCAS), air traffic control global phraseology, and free flight.


Information Sciences Committee

Scope:
All stages of the research and development process, from the formulation of the initial concept through analysis, experimentation, simulation, rapid prototyping, proof-of-concept, and the refinement of production systems/subsystems with the ultimate goal of developing both incremental and revolutionary improvements to the state of the art.


Structures Committee

Scope:
Areas of structures technology employed in the design and development of aerospace systems.
