Vehicle Network for Multiplexing & Data Communications Standards
SCOPE:
Vehicle wiring networks are rapidly becoming very complex due to the increased usage of electronic controls, displays and features. As a result, the vehicle wire harness is growing in size and complexity to the point where multiplexing and data communication links are expected to be required to develop cost effective and reliable vehicle systems. This committee's mission is mainly concerned with vehicle wire multiplex and data communications to assist in the growth expected in this area of vehicle electronics. The committee shall continue to contribute to the understanding and use of semiconductor devices such as microprocessors, power devices, and other integrated circuits used in these systems. Thus, all onboard vehicle networks (excluding aircraft) and devices used in these systems shall be included. Specific objectives shall include:
- Collect information on multiplexing and data communications systems.
- Maintain the glossary of automotive electronic terms (SAE JI213/1) as applicable to the work of this committee.
- Publish information reports on network topologies, vehicle system partitioning, interfacing, and protocol.
- Establish a forum for the consideration of safety and fusing practices and publish where appropriate.
- Publish information reports, recommended practices, and standards to support wire multiplexing and data communications.
- Provide input, guidance, and direction to the semiconductor industry for the development of functional and cost effective solid state devices.
- Encourage the applicable industries to support the efforts of this MUX committee.
