Abstract:
Kyoto protocol commitment signed on last February 16, 2005 after seven work years, shows an opportunity for the humanity to work in benefit of his future. The protocol imposes the counties, a reduction of 5% (on the level of 1990) of the emissions of six gases that cause the greenhouse effect: CO\d2 (carbon dioxide or carbon gas), CH\d4 (methane), Nitric oxide (N\d2O) and three fluor gases (HFC, PFC and SF\d6). The use of alcohol by Flex fuel vehicles contributes significantly to the greenhouse effect reduction, once CO\d2 emitted by theses vehicles when fueled with ethanol were previously absorbed from atmosphere during the photosynthesis on the plantation process. The CO\d2 reduction in the exhaust and his absorption during plantations gets the world attention on the FLEX engines and on the Brazilian alcohol business. They blunt as a strong technology, already available, that can shared with other counties in all economical options. Be in the export of fuel injection systems of Brazilian Flex engines; be in the export of the alcohol fuel, or for credits on the sugar cane plantations that can assure the country to obtaining carbon credits, since countries can compensate his pollution paying for the rescue of CO\d2 quotes through reforestation or projects. The flex vehicle in its day by day can be fueled with any mixture of alcohol or gasoline, and the form to establishing the amount avoided CO\d2 will be though the evaluation of the amount of alcohol used in the moment that the mixture is burned. The amount of avoided CO\d2 should be permanently stored in the memory of Engine Control Unit - ECU for consultation through diagnosis equipments. This work demonstrates the calculation for the avoided CO\d2 in atmosphere, taking into account limits established by the Kyoto protocol. The combustion equations analyses were confirmed with practical results in vehicle laboratory.
