Abstract:
This work presents a new test methodology to evaluate the formation of intake valve deposits in spark-ignition engines that feature flexible fuel technology. This test methodology was adapted from the ASTM D6201 standard, using a commercial Brazilian engine that can be run with blends of gasoline and ethanol in any proportion from pure gasoline to pure ethanol. It also describes the test development, the results of deposits obtained on intake valves and in combustion chambers and proposes the future adoption of the methodology as a Brazilian and/or global standard.
