Abstract:
This paper reviews powerplant operational and maintenance procedures with the objective of minimizing fuel consumption and total operating costs of existing large turbofan engines. Specific recommendations are made to reduce the rate of on-wing performance deterioration and to define cost effective performance refurbishment. Measures being taken to accomplish further fuel and cost savings in the future are summarized. These include design performance retention improvements and development of performance diagnostic/analytical systems to permit better management control of engine operating costs.
