Abstract:
A manufacturing concept for the production of an adhesive bonded wet wing structure.

Although the many advantages of adhesive bonded aircraft structures have become more and more obvious with the recent improvements in adhesives and surface preparations, manufacturing methods for producing completely enclosed bonded structures such as a wing at a cost competitive to conventional riveted structure have not been applied.

Murdock Engineering has pioneered a manufacturing concept for taking full advantage of the benefits to be derived from the use of adhesive bonding for aircraft structures and which provides a saving in cost and complexity over mechanically fastened designs. In addition, it offers an extremely smooth outer surface and has an inherent self-sealing characteristic to meet wet wing requirements permanently and efficiently.
