Abstract:
Generalized relationships are derived to analyze the cost effectiveness of weight reduction obtained by substitution of an advanced material of reduced density with no change in dimensions. These cost effectiveness relationships are applied to a preliminary assessment of aluminum-lithium (A1-Li) on an advanced derivative of the MD-80 transport aircraft.
