Abstract:
OSHA and EPA regulations demand a closer look at aircraft paint removal processes within the Department of Defense and commercial activities. The Naval Air Systems Team has been vigorously pursuing the elimination of methylene chloride-based paint removal technology for several years. Earlier this year NAVAIR representatives developed a cohesive strategy to address both short-term (Oct 1998) and long-term (Year 2000 and beyond) paint removal practices within its depots. The plan accommodates environmental issues, current and developing technologies, and facilities requirements.
