Ronald K. Jurgen

Abstract:

With the increasing use of electronic control units and sensors in automobiles, the need for detection of faulty components or malfunctioning elements is also increasing. This book covers both on- and off-board diagnostics (OBD) and their use in automobiles.

Beginning with a brief history and general overview of diagnostics of automotive electronic control systems, the papers in this book include descriptions of basic diagnostic technologies as well as specific diagnostic systems for many types of electronic failures in automobiles. On- and Off-Board Diagnostics also covers OBD as denoting the stipulations of the lawmakers on the checking and monitoring of exhaust-gas-relevant data.

Electronics expert Ronald K. Jurgen has chosen 59 landmark papers written since 1994 on this rapidly growing technology.

Subjects covered include:

  • Misfire Detection
  • Engine Knock Detection
  • Fuzzy Decision Making for Automotive Applications
  • Portable On-Board Diagnostic Scan Tools
  • Laser Diagnostic Techniques
  • OBD-II System and Performance
  • On-Board Diagnostics of LEV/ULEV Systems
  • Integrated Diagnostic Systems
