Abstract:
With today's emphasis on emissions and the search for an alternative fuel, hydrogen is being touted by many as the fuel of the future. This book collects 43 SAE technical papers covering the last five years (1998-2002) of research on the uses of hydrogen as a transportation fuel.
Hydrogen and Its Future as a Transportation Fuel covers the automotive industry's exploration of hydrogen's use as both a fuel in the internal combustion engine (a scenario under which it could replace gasoline) and as a fuel to power a fuel cell.
But there are challenges that must be met before hydrogen can become a prevalent transportation fuel. Problems such as on-board storage and a future hydrogen refueling infrastructure are also the focal point of research covered in this book.
