The scope of the On Road Automated Vehicle Standards committee Verification and Validation Task Force is to provide and define information, best practices, and standards for the verification and validation (V&V) of on road automated driving systems (ADSs) for automation levels 3 (“Conditional Automation”), 4 (“High Automation”), and 5 (“Full Automation”). V&V applies to verifying and validating the functionality and dependability of on road ADSs for correctness and completeness. The functionality of an on road ADS is defined by its functional specification of behavior. The dependability of an on road ADS is defined by its safety, reliability, availability, maintainability, and integrity. Functionality and dependability are impacted by the correctness and completeness of requirements, design, implementation, and operational deployment of the on-road ADSs based on our understanding of the key nominal and non-nominal use cases to which on road ADSs could be subjected. This task force will thus focus on researching the key nominal and non-nominal use cases for specifying aspects of functionality and dependability at the ADS and/or application level that should be verified and validated. The task force will also focus on describing methodologies for how on road ADSs will be verified and validated.
