Maintenance Innovation Challenge

Monday, December 12
1300 - 1430 | Room: W 315 A-B

Objective:

Elevate and expand sustainment innovation beyond new technology, to include value-added partnerships, resourcing strategies, business practices, processes, or other transformative capabilities that make weapon system and equipment maintenance and sustainment more agile, effective, and affordable.

Abstract:

The importance of sustainment innovation development and adoption is increasingly relevant as we strive to accelerate materiel availability by improving the effectiveness and viability of the Defense industrial base, including our organic capabilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has again illuminated the gaps we have in our domestic resources, industrial capabilities, and supply chain approaches and has highlighted the innovative spirit and world-class capabilities resident in our sustainment community during our response. Novel innovations can provide significant advances in capabilities to our sustainment enterprise and benefit other military and domestic challenges.

This session will showcase the six Maintenance Innovation Challenge (MIC) finalists as they present their technologies, best business practices, and innovative maintenance processes. The finalists, selected by an evaluation board of maintenance technology subject matter experts from the Joint Technology Exchange Group and industry will be given 15 minutes each to present their promising innovations and approaches.

The single MIC winner will be selected by DoD's senior maintenance leaders from the Maintenance Executive Steering Committee, the Joint Group on Depot Maintenance, and the Industrial Base Commanders. Breakout attendees will also have the opportunity to cast a ballot to select the "People's Choice Award," which will be presented along with the winner of the MIC during a plenary session.
