For more than 80 years, the Energy & Propulsion Conference & Exhibition (previously called the Powertrains, Fuels & Lubricants Conference & Exhibition) has served as a valuable meeting place for industry professionals from around the world. To better reflect the pulse of the industry and its move towards electrification, this conference has undergone a name change and the technical program will be enhanced to include new technical sessions focusing on the latest paths to fuel efficiency, zero emissions, and fuel agnostic powertrains.

This conference remains the go-to event for OEMs, suppliers, researchers, engineers, government officials, academics, and other professionals to discover and discuss emerging technologies. While traditional topics of SI combustion and emission controls will still be covered, more content on clean propulsion technologies will be featured, such as fuel cells, advanced batteries, hybrids and electric vehicles, electric motors and power electronics.  Fuels will continue an expansion on synthetic fuels, hydrogen, ammonia, and natural gas, especially for heavy-duty applications.

Barbara (Barb) Goodrich

Global Technical Lead – Engine Oils and Fuels, John Deere

Presentation: How Energy Independence and Climate Change Reduction Have Aligned Through the Development of Low-Carbon Alternative Energy

Barb Goodrich has global technical responsibility for fuels (conventional and alternative), fuel issues, fuel additive products, engine oil formulations and products, and engine oil issues. She provides technical service by troubleshooting application/field problems and developing solutions. Barb interfaces with the engine design group, vehicle partners, and the marketing groups. A major industry issue she was heavily involved in was internal diesel injector deposits (IDID) found in compression-ignition high-pressure common rail fuel systems. Barb has over 40 years of experience, the last 17 at John Deere. Goodrich holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Chemical Engineering both from Michigan State University.

Don Hillebrand

Director – Energy Systems Division, Argonne National Laboratory

Presentation: Transportation Decarbonization Plans

Don is currently a senior Advisor in the US Department of Energy Vehicle Technology Office.  Don is also the Deputy Associate Laboratory Director for Argonne National Laboratory’s Advanced Energy Technologies directorate. 

In 2013, Dr. Hillebrand was elected President and Chairman of the Board of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Prior to joining Argonne in 2004, he worked for Daimler Research in Stuttgart, Germany, as Daimler’s research and technology representative to the European Commission. From 1996 to 1999, Dr. Hillebrand served in the Executive Office of the President in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Dr. Hillebrand earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Oakland University.

Matt Sheehan

Senior Consulting Engineer – Fuels, Chevron

Presentation: Chevron Lower Carbon Transportation Strategy

Matt Sheehan is Chevron’s Senior Consulting Engineer, Fuels located in Richmond, CA. His responsibilities include fuels product strategy, expertise on specifications and performance, and coordination of our industry committee activities. Matt is on the Coordinating Research Council Board of Directors and is Section Chair for ASTM D02.A0.01 for Gasoline and Gasoline-Oxygenate Blends.

Previously, Matt served as Biofuels Technology Commercialization Manager where he developed the integration of renewable fuels processing in our refineries.
