SAE/NHTSA CyberSecurity Workshop
April 2, 2019
Washington Convention Center
Washington, DC
The intent of this one-day SAE/NHTSA CyberSecurity Workshop is to gather government, industry, and academia subject-matter experts to highlight and discuss critical issues unique to securing vehicles and the automotive industry. These issues include:
- Developing robust processes for driving cybersecurity into the product development life cycle
- Applying appropriate security controls such as penetration testing, intrusion detection systems, firewalls/gateways, etc.
- Securing vehicle interfaces—both physical connectivity and wireless communications
- Addressing secure over-the-air software updates
This one-day workshop will feature in-depth panel discussions as well as a collaborative, pragmatic discussion of security gaps and proposed solutions based on the seminal automotive cybersecurity survey commissioned by SAE International and Synopsys Inc.
Detailed Description
There is a growing need for a comprehensive national plan to safeguard information technology, electronic systems, and sensitive information from cyber attacks. Vulnerabilities in automotive development and organizational infrastructure affect all sectors of industry, and finding a robust solution is a priority problem for the government. The topic is particularly important in the critical infrastructure.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, there are 16 critical infrastructure sectors whose assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof.
The workshop invites subject-matter experts who are working to solve the problems ahead of us and ways we can address these issues. We may never be ‘hack-free,’ but we can make significant strides for improvement if we work together on lessons learned from different sectors addressing various issues.
The workshop comprises of a series of panel discussions and concludes with a breakout session as the result of an Automotive Cyber Security Survey to be presented.
