Learn how PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), Carnegie Mellon University, RIDC and Westmoreland County are partnering to advance PennSTART – a state-of-the-art safety, training, and research facility at RIDC Westmoreland Innovation Center.

Representatives will share PennSTART’s vision and how it will impact the future of transportation safety—in addition to how it will promote innovation and attract companies, jobs, and investments to the region.

PennSTART is still in the discovery stage of building this state-of-the-art facility. Come ready to engage. The team wants input on track design, planning and more from emergency responders; transportation technology companies, vendors, contractors, suppliers, and consultants; federal, state, and local government agencies; DOT representatives; and academics.

In addition to allowing AV testing and development, PennSTART’s aims to address safety, training, and research needs within six key areas: Traffic incident management (TIM), tolling and intelligent transportation systems (ITS), work zones, commercial vehicles, transit vehicles, AV—and more.

The facility envisions the benefit of emergency responders, transportation technology companies, and research institutions while supporting the local economy.
