North American International Propulsion Conference

September 15-17, 2021 | Chicago

Event Guide

Created by Executives for Executives

SAE's longstanding North American International Powertrain Conference has changed its name to the North American International Propulsion Conference (NAIPC). Changing to Propulsion reflects the modern developments in alternative and electrified propulsion systems, including high tech gasoline and diesel ICEs, hydrogen fuel cells, battery electric systems, and variable transmissions.

NAIPC will remain the most reliable executive, invitation only industry event and will reconvene in-person September 15-17, 2021 in Chicago, IL. Planned by the Executive Leadership Team, composed of senior-level propulsion executives in the automotive industry, NAIPC will facilitate and encourage critical, open conversations that provide strategic direction for companies to prepare for what lies ahead in the international propulsion sector.

Meeting under Chatham House Rule, this event enables critical discussions that you won’t find anywhere else.

A Comprehensive Experience

Between compelling keynotes and interactive sessions, attendees will explore customer perspectives, market forces affecting the propulsion business, and the impacts of new technology options and energy sources. Attendees will also participate in unique executive-to-executive networking opportunities.

In this role, he oversees the strategic direction and growth initiatives of the 102-year old, Indiana-based company. Cummins is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of engines and related technologies; and a provider of global service and support in 190 countries across a network of approximately 9,000 distributor and dealer locations.

In addition to his work at Cummins, Tom is actively involved with several global and local organizations. He has been a member of the board of directors of Harley Davidson since 2008.  He is a member of the Business Roundtable (BRT), an association of chief executive officers of America’s leading companies working with government officials on crafting legislation impacting American businesses. In 2020, Tom was appointed as the chair of the U.S.-China Business Council. In 2021, Tom was appointed as chair of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), co-chair of the Global Hydrogen Council and joined the CEO Climate Dialogue Group.

Tom grew up in California and in 1986 received joint undergraduate degrees in management engineering from Claremont McKenna College and mechanical engineering from Stanford University.  He later returned to Stanford University to earn an MS in manufacturing systems from the School of Engineering and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business in 1993.

Tom and his wife Michele have two adult daughters, Alex and Emily, and enjoy traveling to spend time with them.
