SAE Noise & Vibration Conference Science Fair Call for Projects
Sound Sense: Acoustical Applications, Materials and Technologies
The SAE 2025 Noise and Vibration Conference and Exhibition will be hosting a Science Fair. The Science Fair is open to all SAE Members, NVH experts and for currently enrolled full-time undergraduate university students as well as those who have graduated within the past six (6) months.
The Science Fair projects can be hands-on, a video demonstration, or a collection of acoustical materials and instrumentation demonstrating a multitude of engineering efforts being used in the field of acoustics. The project should include as much information as possible. To insure the success of the Science Fair, submitters that displayed at past conferences are encouraged to propose displaying their projects again – since many of the attendees at the conference will be “first-time” attendees, possibly new to the field. All projects will be beneficial to the overall atmosphere of the conference. Project submissions will be subjected to a selection process. Projects will be voted on by attendees for “Best of Show” award.
- OBJECTIVE: The project is to provide a learning experience regarding acoustic materials and technologies. It should be directed at the engineer or technician level (who may be naïve with respect to N&V materials) the project should be self-explanatory, easy to operate and aimed at an individual or a group of 2-3 people.
- CRITERIA: The project CAN NOT promote a specific product or company (though the sponsor’s name/company/affiliation/school is allowed). Only one project per entrant will be considered and will be selected based upon educational content, originality, significance and overall contribution to the conference and acoustics.
- THEMES: Some possible and appropriate themes may include: Damping, Sound Barriers, Sound Absorbers, Sealing and Isolation and the materials and technologies to support them. These are only listed as suggested themes – imagination and creativity are welcomed.
- LOGISTICS: The project must be self-contained and fit on a 30” x 48” table. Covers and skirting as well as signage will be provided. Electrical power is supported; however, an extension cord provision is highly recommended.
Participation in the Science Fair requires that the person displaying a Science Fair project be a registered attendee at the conference. The participant needs to be registered for full conference, participant, student, or exhibitor, all of which are acceptable. The winner will be announced during the Thursday morning closing for the conference.
The distribution of SAE copyrighted publications and the distribution of company logoed giveaways are strictly prohibited at the Science Fair projects.
