Part 1 – Static Judging
All teams will be assigned a time between the hours of 10:00 am EDT – 4:00 pm EDT, including a lunch break, on the original competition dates of June 4 – 5, 2020
- Teams will be assigned a 35-minute time slot using WebEx platform.
- 35-minute session will break down as follows:
- 5 minutes for logging on and greetings
- Presentation segment 25-30 minutes with approximate time distribution of session
- 13-16 minutes team slid presentation
- 9-12 minutes judges’ questions and team responses
- 5-minute judge’s feedback
- 35-minute session will break down as follows:
- Teams are encouraged to create a PPT for presentation on their vehicle design.
- Teams are encouraged to have all engineering related material to their vehicle design and presentation readily available on their computer to share on-screen with judges.
- Judges will provide feedback on presentation and written report at this time.
- Written report judge feedback summary will be provided by email to report submitting email address(es) at least two days before virtual verbal meeting.
- Verbal report feedback presented verbally by judges during last five minutes of virtual report session.
- Awards will be given recognizing teams in both written and oral presentations for 1st – 3rd places. Winners will receive a plaque and monetary amounts in $600 for 1st, $400 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd places. SAE and Eaton Organizers will also select one Grand Champion for best combined results of written and oral presentation scores. Winner will receive a plaque and monetary amount of $700. Eaton Organizers will also select one “Newcomer Award” recognizing a new team or university who has not competed in past three years with highest combined score. Winner will receive a plaque and monetary amount of $700. *Eaton Organizers will allow 2020 “newcomers” to be still be eligible for the “newcomers award” in 2021 due the other areas of competition not experienced.
Teams will have opportunity to sign up for their preferred time slot using an EventBrite.com link that will be sent to teams who met the criteria to participate based on required document submission. Teams will be notified/confirmed of their assignments via email from SAE staff and we will also post the assignments here on the SAE Supermileage website.
Teams will be scored using the presentation scoring matrix. You can find reference to it also online under the Attend Tab in Rules and Important Document section.
*Organizers are currently reviewing the opportunity to develop some enhanced criteria to share with teams suggesting 300 points for the verbal presentation which is same as written report score. New scoring matrix for 2020 virtual will be online when available.
