Energy & Propulsion Conference & Exhibition Coordinators Discuss Upcoming Fall Event

SAE International gives professionals the opportunity to share in the latest developments as well as things yet to come.
The Energy & Propulsion Conference & Exhibition (EPC) – formerly Powertrains, Fuels & Lubricants Symposium—is on the cutting edge of new mobility technology that will keep our vehicles moving forward. The 2024 event will take place November 12-14 in Columbus, Ohio.
As members of the planning committee for EPC, Dr. Elena Chapman, Energy and Emissions Regulatory Technical Specialist for General Motors, and Dr. Christopher J. Tennant, Executive Director of the Coordinating Research Council (CRC), are two driving forces that have helped this conference fuel industry progress.
“We're really excited about the opportunity to get to work together and help plan the event with a workshop component. This event addresses challenges by providing a platform to hear the latest research and provide forums for panels consisting of some of the top people in the industry,” Tennant said.
This year’s EPC will feature multiple infrastructure sessions, providing valuable insights to navigate a rapidly-changing energy landscape.
“There’s a very real need for an intentional and continued improvement for EVs and EV infrastructure. We also need technical experts to work together to determine which one method will achieve the most effective greenhouse gas reduction,” Chapman said.
With a lot of technology in a period of transition, industry is facing uncertainty looking into the future of propulsion. Tennant believes that EPC will facilitate the collaborative environment needed to address these challenges.
“One of the biggest benefits of organizations like SAE and the CRC is that we create a structure for people to come together and work with a shared knowledge,” he said. “You'll be able to learn a great deal about what's going on in your field, meet other people within the same field as you—and make connections that will help further your career.”
With a smaller community dedicated to a specific technology area, there’s greater opportunity to engage with concepts that are directly applicable to the challenges energy and propulsion professionals are facing and make connections with others who are working on those same challenges.
“The Energy and Propulsion meeting is a smaller event than—say—WCX and so there’s a greater opportunity to connect one-on-one, ask insightful questions, and figure out where your role is within mobility,” Chapman said.
