Posted: January 21, 2022

SAE International will support and participate at the Vertical Flight Society’s (VFS) Transformative Vertical Flight Conference Jan. 25-27 in San Jose, California. The event provides a forum to advance new vertical flight concepts and technologies. SAE is honored to be a sponsor of this event.

Jonathan Archer, SAE Aerospace Standards Director, Strategy & Innovation, will present on SAE standards for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) during the consensus standards panel.

Archer’s presentation will center around the tasks and activities being undertaken by specific SAE committees, including:

  • E-40 and AE-7: Focus on Hybrid and Electric Propulsion

  • AE-7F and AE-5: Focus on Alternate Fuels and Electrification

  • AMS-AM, AMS-P17 and AMS-CACRC: Focus on Advanced Materials

  • SEAT Committee: Focus on VTOL seats.

It will also focus on progress being made by SAE committee G-34 on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; G-35 on Modelling, Simulation, and Training, and S-18 Safety Assessment & Design Assurance – Scalability and Autonomy.

Aerospace Standards’ Dorothy Lloyd and Pascal Thalin will support SAE’s new AE-10 Committee on High Voltage, which is having its first in-person meeting at the event, and Thalin will join the VFS H2 Hydrogen Council Meeting. SAE’s Tim Davison will be on hand representing SAE at its sponsorship booth, featuring SAE products including books and EDGE reports on electric aircraft and certification.

In addition, SAE standards contributor and Aerolytics Founder and President Bill Bihlman will moderate a panel on materials and manufacturing in AAM.

“We’re very excited for this year’s Transformative Vertical Flight Conference,” said David Alexander, SAE International Director of Aerospace Standards. “SAE International’s partnership with VFS and presence during this event highlights the pivotal role in the future of the aviation industry that SAE’s standards development and thought leadership contributes.

Registration for the event is open for virtual and in-person participants, while registration for the SAE AE-10 High Voltage meeting can be accessed here.
