SAE Foundation Raises Over $340,000 for STEM Education at Annual Celebration 

Celebrating its 26th year, the 2024 SAE Foundation Annual Celebration was a night to remember.

The SAE Foundation  raised more than $340,000 to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education through the SAE’s A World In Motion® (AWIM®) program.


Honoring Industry Leaders 

Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and Global CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., received the prestigious 2024 SAE Foundation Industry Leadership Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the mobility industry.

Jamie Ferguson, Executive Director of the SAE Foundation & STEM Learning, praised Mr. Mibe.

"This Industry Leadership Award is a testament to Mr. Mibe’s prestigious career, his leadership in the mobility industry, and Honda’s unwavering support of STEM education and the mission of the SAE Foundation," she said.


Generous Donation by General Motors

Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, celebrated Mr. Mibe with a $100,000 donation to support the new AWIM High School Electric Vehicle curriculum, set to launch in early 2025. This initiative includes a booklet highlighting Mibe’s leadership in Honda’s electric vehicle journey, aiming to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering.

Additional Awards 

SAE Foundation also recognized other industry leaders for their exceptional contributions: 

Dan Nicholson, Vice President of Strategic Technology Initiatives at General Motors, received the Donald Ableson Award for Visionary LeadershipThis is the highest recognition given by the SAE Foundation Trustees, honoring individuals who exhibit exemplary leadership benefiting SAE International or the SAE Foundation. 

Liz Mathew of Caterpillar, Inc. and Dr. Mike Bunce of MAHLE Powertrain LLC were recognized with the SAE Foundation Young Industry Leader Awards

Nissan North America received the Gordon Millar Award for their significant impact on the mobility industry.

The evening was a testament to the dedication and support of individuals and organizations committed to advancing the mobility industry and inspiring the next generation of engineers and leaders.
