Meet SAE International: Camila Eskew, Strategic Account Manager for Global Information Products

Camila Eskew is a problem solver.

Prior to joining SAE International’s sales team in 2022, Eskew worked for a manufacturing company in the commercial door industry. She described her role as bringing safety to not only meet but surpass codes requirements around automatic door accessibility.

“For me, it was about seeing who was going through those doors and how it was protecting people,” she said. “You can meet standards, and comply with codes, and still, your opening may not be safe. There are blind spots in areas that aren’t protected, and I wanted to promote safety, not just comply with the codes, but go exceed them.”

Eskew became the first Spanish-speaking woman certified trainer for the American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM) and was one of the few Spanish-speaking trainers who could communicate with the many Spanish-speaking technicians servicing the doors. Working with customers in South America led Eskew to push for more language options, and she was successful in getting her former employer to expand their resources to serve a larger pool of international customers.

At SAE, Eskew has brought that same enterprising spirit and dedication to others. Though the mobility industry involves different technologies, many of the concerns for supporting customers through accessible programs, products, and services overlap, and she’s lent her vocal support to these initiatives.

SAE gave Eskew the opportunity to explore her passion areas, and her supervisor, Global Sales Director Mike Ferketic, even allowed Eskew to define what that role would look like, embracing her identity as an immigrant from Chile.

“I came to SAE applying for a role and then we kind of changed it during the interview process. Mike wasn’t expecting me to come with the skills I was bringing, speaking Spanish and understanding the culture, but he was open,” Eskew said. “For me, that’s important—it’s not just speaking the language, but also understanding the culture and relationships. I was missing that in my previous role.”

Eskew joined the team working with a reseller with markets in Miami and Latin America, but as more accounts became available, her work quickly expanded. She now handles all of Latin American inquiries and has been an integral part of connecting with the affiliate organization SAE Brazil.

Beyond her regular job responsibilities, Eskew has found another place to bring her unique approach to challenges as a member of the Fullsight DEI Council and the BIPOC and Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) employee resource groups (ERGs).

“When DEI is done right, there are so many positive outcomes. I personally like to see stories of how DEI has been used to enhance products and services and their long-lasting effects on brands,” Eskew said. “DEI has the power to widen our lenses and challenge the status quo, from reshaping our current processes to re-evaluating what we think is possible to find common ground and understanding. It is great to know that your company has the power to bring that joy to anyone joining your team.”
