SAE’s Monica Nogueira Identifies Editors on the Cutting Edge

Posted: September 5, 2024

Monica Nogueira puts a strong emphasis on education and translates that to her work with SAE International.

As Director of Content Acquisition & Development for SAE International, she has spent the last five years developing SAE Edge™ Research Reports from the ground up.

Monica has been involved in publications since she graduated from the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil. Her journey with SAE began just under 15 years ago in the publications group where she began working with SAE Books before taking on the new concept of Edge™ Research Reports.

SAE Edge™ Research Reports deliver clarity on unsettled issues, shifting technologies and propose practical methods to better understand and solve key challenges facing mobility. These cutting-edge topics include emerging technologies within automation, connectivity, aerospace, electrification, and advanced manufacturing.

“The part that makes me enthusiastic about this project is getting to talk with the experts that can always tell me something I don’t know and something that will be connected to problems that we have to solve,” said Monica. “As an engineering association, we’re in the business of solving problems and creating solutions that can be applied in the real world.”

Monica and her team build strong relationships with experts in academia and industry to understand what the unsettled issues are; they are often at the top of conversation with mobility experts who work with SAE International. As that conversation is constantly shifting, the most significant topics facing industry continue to evolve, and that is what Edge™ Research Reports look to examine.

Monica says the focus of the SAE Edge™ Research Report series is to highlight the thought process behind different technologies. For example, creating a car and creating a phone both require complex software development, but the way we think about them is drastically different. Experts offer their perspectives and help drive innovation in a respected setting through Edge™ Research Reports.

With a well-established reputation in industry, SAE is an ideal place for current and future authors looking to share their knowledge. Monica offers this piece of advice for mobility professionals considering publishing with SAE.

“Take the risk, talk with us. There are multiple types of publishing projects that you can be involved in, and it's work. It's hard work, but it's work that stays,” said Monica. “It's work that will help you grow both as a person as well as a professional, and you put a stake in the ground that marks your presence in that ecosystem when you become an author.”
