Fundamentals of GD&T 2018 3-day Virtual Pre-Conference Certification ET2020024-CT

Designed as a Certificate Course for those attending one of our SAE conferences, this course is offered in conjunction with events like SAE World Congress. It typically runs prior to the actual conference so that registrants may benefit from critical training on GD&T and still have time to attend other important educational and networking sessions.

For those interested in immediate training courses covering GD&T ASME Y14.5 2018, please see https://www.sae.org/learn/content/et2150/

This course teaches the terms, rules, symbols, and concepts of GD&T as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5-2018 Standard.

This course offers an in-depth explanation of geometric tolerancing symbols, their tolerance zones, applicable modifiers, common applications, and verification principles. The class includes a comparison of GD&T to the directly toleranced dimensioning method; Rules #1 and #2; form and orientation controls; tolerance of position; runout and profile controls. Newly acquired learning is reinforced throughout the class with more than 150 practice problems.

Each attendee receives a Fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing 2018,  Using Critical Thinking Skills textbook by Alex Krulikowski (Based on the ASME Y14.5-2018) and the 2018 Ultimate GD&T Pocket Guide, 2nd Edition.

Students who attend courses like this one walk away with more than knowledge - they gain on-the-job skills because the learning materials are performance-based and taught by industry professionals.

Learning Objectives

By attending this class, you will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of standards on engineering drawings
  • Describe the types of dimensions, tolerances, and notes
  • Explain why GD&T is superior to the directly toleranced dimensioning method
  • Describe the general dimensioning symbols
  • Define the key terms used in GD&T
  • Recognize the symbols and modifiers used in GD&T
  • Explain the rules used in GD&T
  • Describe the concepts of worst-case boundary, virtual condition, and bonus tolerance
  • Interpret the various types of geometric tolerances (flatness, circularity, cylindricity, straightness, perpendicularity, parallelism, angularity, position, runout, and profile)
  • Describe the datum system
  • Interpret applications of datum targets, size datum features at RMB, and size datum features at MMB

Who Should Attend

This course is valuable for individuals who create or interpret engineering drawings, product and gage designers; process, product, and manufacturing engineers; supplier quality engineers/professionals; CMM operators; buyers/purchasers; checkers; inspectors; technicians; and sales engineers/professionals.

Prerequisites

Students should have basic knowledge and command of the GD&T ASME Y14.5 standard which provide guidelines for engineering drawing sheet layout.

You must complete all course contact hours and successfully pass the learning assessment to obtain CEUs.
