At Arconic, sustainability is an integral part of our culture and our core strategy. Arconic Foundation invests where Arconic has a presence to further sustainability and to partner with communities in addressing local needs as they adapt to a rapidly changing world. By making a gift to the SAE Foundation, Arconic has exposed students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiences through the A World In Motion® (AWIM) program.

Objective

Today's students are the technology leaders of tomorrow. This district-wide initiative partners volunteers from Arconic and neighboring companies with teachers to bring science and technology to life in fifth grade classrooms across the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. These volunteers have given their time and expertise to help facilitate the AWIM program and to improve STEM achievement and retain interest at a critical age. The transition between fifth and sixth grade is when most students lose interest in math and science subjects. Through Arconic Foundation's generous financial support and Arconic’s employee volunteer participation, more than 4,000 fifth grade students in Cleveland Metropolitan School District have experienced part of the AWIM curriculum.

Goals/Expectations

• To provide an opportunity for students to participate in hands-on activities that provide a foundation for STEM learning
• To provide a unique experience for Arconic and local industry volunteers to participate in the classroom learning experience, acting as content experts and mentors
• To give fifth grade teachers in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District the opportunity to expand student exposure to quality STEM curriculum
• To provide an avenue for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to obtain the National Science Board Award Winning AWIM curriculum for classroom use free of charge
