Multiquip recently chose Exa to evaluate and reduce noise propagation from its containerized power generators. Exa's aeroacoustic and aerodynamic simulations were used to evaluate and optimize the generator design. Exa products simulate container acoustics, including the modeling of absorbing materials, improving efficiency through simulations and virtual design optimization. Complex, transient simulations were measured, analyzed, and optimized, including the generator's rotating fan. Noise propagation from all sides of the 1000-kW (1340-hp) containerized power generators was measured using physical prototypes to evaluate both far field acoustics as well as noise within the container itself. Multiquip has performed additional evaluations including louver design optimizations to balance exterior noise reduction while maintaining proper cooling airflow and exhaust noise modeling.
