Continental announced Thursday in a release that it has acquired 100% ownership of Emitec, an exhaust technologies specialist. Previously, it was a fifty-fifty joint venture with Continental and GKN. Emitec will become part of the Powertrain Division. Emitec develops and produces metallic catalyst substrates, particle filters, and dosing modules for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. Continental will now offer complete exhaust-gas aftertreatment systems. With the new acquisition, Emitec will add its catalytic substrate technology and its dosing module to Continental’s SCR solutions. The new modules have synergies with the gasoline and diesel fuel supply units of the Fuel Supply business unit in Continental’s Powertrain Division. Continental combined Emitec and Fuel Supply in order to create the Fuel & Exhaust Management Business Unit in the Powertrain Division. Continental is planning to produce Emitec products by the end of this year at its site in Wuhu, China, according to Markus Distelhoff, Head of the new Business Unit and former Head of Fuel Supply Business Unit. Distelhoff also said he can see great potential in the Indian two-wheeler market. Emitec is represented in the commercial-vehicle and two-wheeler sectors and can use its expertise and customer contacts to help Fuel Supply gain access to new market segments.
