Certifying Competence: MES and SAE International Announce New Partnership

Berlin-based software company Model Engineering Solutions GmbH (MES) and SAE International have teamed up within the scope of the MES Academy. In accordance with this, MES is now qualified to offer participants of MES Academy training workshops on model-based software development the chance to attain the “SAE Certificate of Competency”. With this certificate, participants can demonstrate in theory, practice, and on paper their knowledge of model-based software development in compliance with ISO 26262.

MES provides this opportunity to those taking part in the MES training workshop “Model-based Development of Embedded Software in Compliance with ISO 26262” or the MES Summer School on Introduction to Model-based Software Development of Embedded Systems.

Gaining certified: know-how via the MES Academy

Renowned industry-wide, the SAE Certificate of Competency recognizes and confirms a person’s or organization’s expertise and skill level in a particular area. It is offered to candidates as an optional part of training or education programs and awarded following the successful completion of an evaluation exercise.

MES CEO, Dr. Heiko Dörr, emphasized how this partnership enhances the respective training workshops, stating, “We are honored to partner with SAE International. The content and topics we tackle in our training workshops are meticulously curated from our practical and consulting experience to ensure that our theoretical approach has real-world applicability. Partnering with SAE International not only underscores the relevance and value of our training offering, it allows workshop participants to cement and, consequently, demonstrate their acquired competence at an industry-verified level.”

SAE International‘s Director of Professional Development, Dr. Kevin Perry, commented, “SAE is pleased to be able to issue the SAE Certificate of Competency for this important content area.  After a thorough review of the learning objectives and final exam for the MES training course, it certainly meets the requirements for sound instructional design and learning assessment.  As such, the MES training is well positioned to positively impact embedded software skills across the industry.”

Both the training workshop “Model-based Development of Embedded Software in Compliance with ISO 26262” and the MES Summer School are built on a format that enables participants to create, build, and strengthen their ability to develop embedded software in compliance with ISO 26262.

The first MES training workshops offering the chance to achieve the SAE Certificate of Competency can be found on SAE International’s website: http://training.sae.org/

MES Training Workshop: Model-based Development of Embedded Software in Compliance with ISO 26262

The 2-day training workshop “Model-based Development of Embedded Software in Compliance with ISO 26262” will be held throughout 2018 in Berlin and Stuttgart (Germany) as well as in Pontiac, MI, and Columbus, IN (USA); US-based training workshops are run by our partner, LHP Engineering Solutions training division, LHPU. The hands-on program allows participants to learn how to develop and safeguard safety-critical, embedded software in serial projects with Simulink in compliance with ISO 26262.

This training workshop will take place in early 2018 on the following dates:

Zach McClellan, President of LHPU- “LHPU and SAE have taken on a common goal of creating a talent pool in the automotive industry that is more efficient and has quicker productivity rates. This goal has become a reality in certain areas of engineering.  This relationship adds the element of functional safety to individuals working specifically in the area of Model Based Design.  LHPU is very excited regarding this enhancement of the talent in the automotive industry in the U.S.”

MES Summer School on Introduction to Model-based Software Development of Embedded Systems

Following its successful debut in 2017, the MES Summer School  ‘Introduction to Model-based Software Development’ will return in 2018. In the course of five days, participants will immerse themselves in the topic of model-based development as it applies to the automotive and automation sectors, among others. The program takes participants through all relevant process steps – from elicitation and management of requirements through to defining architectures and designing a model structure – to enable them to apply these to their own projects and workplaces.

The MES Summer School will be held on June 11–15, 2018 in Berlin (Germany).
