ARINC Industry Activities (ARINC IA), an SAE ITC Program, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to share technical information in the areas of air traffic management, aircraft communication, navigation and surveillance technology.
The agreement aims to help increase overall safety, sustainability and efficiency for the aviation industry.
The agreement solidifies and formalizes a long-standing cooperative relationship between ARINC IA and ICAO to share technical information dating back to the 1940’s,” Mike Rockwell, Executive Director, noted.
“The exchange of information permitted by these new agreements will be critical to ICAO’s efforts to develop mature and comprehensive standards for international civil aviation,” Dr. Liu, ICAO Secretary General, emphasized. “Industry standards serve unique and often complementary roles in support of global air navigation objectives, which underscores the importance of ICAO’s provisions being fully compatible with the efforts of these new partners.”
ARINC IA organizes aviation industry committees and participates in related industry activities that benefit aviation at large by providing technical leadership and guidance. These activities directly support aviation industry goals: promote safety, efficiency, regularity, and cost-effectiveness in aircraft operations.
ARINC IA organizes and coordinates four aviation committees – Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC), Avionics Maintenance Committee (AMC), Flight Simulator Engineering and Maintenance Committee (FSEMC), and Mechanical Maintenance Committee (MMC) – to improve cost effectiveness and reduce life-cycle costs. ARINC IA cooperatively establishes common technical standards and shared technical solutions that no one organization could develop independently. This benefits airlines; aircraft and flight simulator manufacturers; avionics suppliers; and associated service providers. ARINC IA is shaping Communications, Navigation and Surveillance systems for future Air Traffic Management, enabling new digital data management technologies (e.g. electronic flight bags) and solving hard maintenance problems.
