2017 brought major changes and upgrades to SAE International’s official website and the SAE MOBILUS™ technical resource platform. Major changes included a complete redesign of SAE.org, the introduction of specialized Knowledge Hubs in key content areas, and the movement of SAE MOBILUS to an open platform where content can be discovered and evaluated without a paywall. These developments are part of SAE International’s ongoing commitment to user experience improvement.
“SAE International is dedicated to providing mobility engineering professionals and academics with the knowledge resources they need, when they need them,” said Frank Menchaca, Chief Product Officer for SAE International. “Whether they’re exploring SAE MOBILUS, browsing SAE.org, or searching the broader internet for critical information, we want them to be able to connect to our content quickly and easily. The less time they spend searching for relevant information, the more time they can spend moving our industry forward.”
Driven by extensive research, testing, and critical feedback from SAE International stakeholders and team members, the new SAE.org redesign is focused on a more intuitive, convenient user experience. Now live and accessible from any device, the site’s refreshed features include:
- A completely restructured homepage
- Simplified site architecture and navigation for streamlined resource usage and discovery
- An improved “mySAE” interface that allows for increased customization
- Powerful site search, filtering, and content discoverability
Along with making SAE.org easier to access, SAE’s Knowledge Hubs were created to provide a convenient gateway to curated, informative, and trusted mobility engineering resources regarding emerging topics. The collections contain quality, free content and serve as an access point to the best industry resources, training, networking events, and news. Current Knowledge Hubs include the following, with more to be added in the coming months:
- Cybersecurity
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Powertrain
In perhaps the most dramatic SAE International development of the past year, SAE content is now more discoverable to key audiences following the move of SAE MOBILUS to an openly accessible platform with a soft paywall. Abstracts of each of the 226,000+ SAE standards, journal articles, magazine articles, technical papers, and eBooks included in the platform are available for anyone to explore regardless of whether they are SAE MOBILUS subscribers. Non-subscribers can also utilize platform features including in-platform annotation, intuitive search functionality, and access to complimentary content.
