SAE International Meetup in San Jose to Discuss Cybersecurity and OTA Update/Independent Parking Technologies

SAE International will join with Utimaco and Parkfofon to host a Meetup on April 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Prospect SV, 1608 Las Plumas Ave, San Jose, Calif.

  • Topic 1: Cybersecurity and Securing OTA Updates

Richard Williamson, Technical Staff, Ultimaco

Utimaco is a leading manufacturer of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) that provide the Root of Trust to all industries, from financial services and payment to the automotive industry, cloud services to the public sector. Utimaco is headquartered in Aachen, Germany and Campbell, California. In this presentation Richard will describe basic requirements for limiting the vehicle attack surface and securing OTA updates.

As a member of Ultimaco's technical staff, Richard’s two primary functions are “customer facing” and “technical”. He has worked in engineering and management in tech support, sales engineering, professional services, technical marketing and technical account management, data security, cyber-physical systems, real-time operating systems, real-time data distribution and structured data handling. Richard joined Utimaco in 2016 after 34 years of nomadic travels: as an NCO and Officer in the US Army, university student, UN diplomatic spouse, software engineer, consultant and manager. Richard grew up locally on the Peninsula and then moved 42 times in the next 32 years (he kept a spreadsheet) before returning. Richard has a BA in modern languages from the California State University, Fresno and completed his MBA at the Webster University campus in Vienna, Austria.

  • Topic 2: Infrastructure-Independent Parking Technologies

Evgeny Klochikhin, PhD, CEO, Parkofon

Parking is a painful experience due to outdated infrastructure, confusing regulations, and unclear payment instructions. Parkofon offers a built-in, infrastructure-independent technology that guides vehicles to open spaces, knows exactly when they park, how long they can stay there, and automatically deducts payment for the actual time they stay parked. Parkofon's patent pending solution uses a connected, high-precision geonavigation system that makes it easier to find and pay for parking.

Dr. Evgeny Klochikhin has over 10 years of experience and knowledge in data science, technology management, scientific research, and public relations. Prior to starting Parkofon in 2016, Dr. Klochikhin served as the senior data scientist and researcher at the American Institutes for Research where he led over $4M of data-driven projects and provided policy and technology management expertise to clients in the United States, Spain, Norway, Uganda and other countries. He also led the development and justification of new and innovative methods of evidence-based policy making and evaluation using advanced data science and computational techniques, particularly text mining and Big Data analysis. At Parkofon, Dr. Klochikhin leads an international team of professionals bringing together decades of experience in hardware, embedded systems, software engineering, data science, and business development. Dr. Klochikhin holds PhD in Innovation and Technology Management from the Manchester Business School, UK. He has authored multiple publications including journal articles, book chapters, and papers.

Food and beverages will be provided. To learn more or to register, visit https://www.meetup.com/SAE-Innovations-in-Mobility/events/248860199.
