The International Alliance for Mobility Testing & Standardization launches at SAE WCX World Congress Experience in Detroit

SAE International has joined China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), TÜV SÜD, Shanghai SH Intelligent Automotive and International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC) as charter members of the new Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS).  IAMTS is founded with the mission “to develop and grow an international portfolio of advanced mobility testbeds that meet the highest quality implementation and operational standards.”  IAMTS is the culmination of two years’ effort led by Dr. Joachim Taiber, CTO of ITIC, to bring together smart/advanced mobility testbeds from around the globe to share, implement and develop best practices and replicable procedures, and to provide manufacturers and mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) companies with a comprehensive portfolio of physical and virtual test environments and their audited capabilities.

Rapid innovation of on and off-road transportation, airport ground control, infrastructure, communications and micro-mobility has exploded the complexity and need for reliable, predictable and replicable testing across geographies and regulatory boundaries.  IAMTS aims to help solve some of these challenges and create a sustainable testing ecosystem for future growth,” says John Tintinalli, SAE’s Director of Innovation and IAMTS’s Secretariat.  “IAMTS joins SAE-ITC’s recently-announced Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium as another critical piece of SAE’s multi-pronged approach to supporting the safe advent of highly automated driving systems, vehicle connectivity, and complex, multi-modal environments. These initiatives will complement our standards committees and joint projects with other SDOs.”

The IAMTS is an SAE ITC (Industry Technologies Consortia) program (http://www.sae-itc.com). The SAE ITC team specializes in establishing and managing consortia by providing proven processes, tools and resources. ITC enables public, private, academic and government organizations to connect and collaborate in neutral, pre-competitive forums thus empowering the setting and implementation of strategic business improvements in highly engineered industries globally.

SAE ITC is an affiliate of SAE International. SAE International is a global association committed to advancing mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity. By engaging nearly 200,000 engineers, technical experts and volunteers, we connect and educate mobility professionals to enable safe, clean, and accessible mobility solutions. We act on two priorities: encouraging a lifetime of learning for mobility engineering professionals and setting the standards for industry engineering. We strive for a better world through the work of our philanthropic SAE Foundation, including programs award-winning programs like A World in Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series™.
